Imagine you’re an older adult living in an assisted living home, away from your family. You don’t get many visitors, and the holidays make you feel isolated and alone. But then you receive a friendly letter from a stranger to lift your spirits.
This holiday season, GlamourGals, a beauty company that caters to older adults, will host the “My Dear Friend” initiative, a program that encourages volunteers to send personal notes to seniors across the country.
“Each handwritten note captures the thoughtful intention of the GlamourGals experience and serves as a reminder to a senior that we are thinking of them,” Rachel Doyle, CEO of GlamourGirls, wrote.
The initiative started during the pandemic as a way to remedy senior isolation. This year, Massage Envy, a massage and skin care service, will donate $1 to the GlamourGals initiative for every note sent to a senior by Dec. 31.
“Massage Envy’s primary focus is helping people to feel better, and I’m grateful to our network of franchise owners for joining together to help brighten the holidays for the senior community,” Beth Stiller, CEO of Massage Envy Franchising, wrote. “It is a disheartening reality that so many seniors living in care facilities don’t receive visitors, and the holiday season can certainly amplify the loneliness that these seniors experience.”
The “My Dear Friend” program is open to anyone. Those who want to send a thoughtful note to a senior this holiday season can register on the GlamourGirls address request page.
