KARE, a website that focuses on senior housing and acute care staffing, has now launched a mobile app to work in conjunction with its online portal, specifically to address the gap in skilled professionals.
The labor shortage in nursing and caregiving at senior living communities, rehab facilities and other eldercare locations has resulted in senior staff members working nonstop, both in administrative and person-to-person caregiving positions. The KARE mobile app makes it easy for management to search for staff even when they’re on the go and can’t take the time to place an ad or search employment sites for qualified personnel.
Formerly the operator of a senior care community, KARE CEO Charles Turner understands the challenge of maintaining adequate staff levels and knows the managers’ concerns about turnover and finding good people to work with older adults.
“Administrators and staffing coordinators are with residents and not sitting at a desk all day, especially when short-staffed,” he said. “We wanted to develop a tool they could use to fill open shifts from the convenience of their phones.”
Where is KARE?
KARE is currently available in 18 states, with service launching in 20 more in the spring of 2022. The company refers to a KARE staffer as a HERO (the company’s acronym for honest, empathetic, reliable and open-minded)—someone who shows up, does the job and takes an interest in the older adults they’re connected to through KARE.
Who works at KARE?
The KARE model enables caregivers to get paid, in most cases, within 24 hours, and KARE members can earn a referral fee for others they refer to the company. Caregivers can also earn bonuses for taking on last-minute or highly challenging jobs.
The service also offers nursing students the opportunity to work while learning and gaining real-life nursing experience.
