As the winter holidays inch closer, you might find yourself running out of gift ideas for your friends and loved ones. Giving photographs as gifts can be overdone, but that doesn’t mean you can’t share special memories via this medium. Maybe you just need a fresh take on this time-honored gift tradition. A sleek, modern and creative approach to photography is glass printing.
Introducing Fracture Glass
Glass print maker Fracture offers a quick, simple and beautiful way to turn your photos into unique works of art. Available in glossy or matte finishes, Fracture prints can be ordered in a range of sizes from 5-inch squares to 21-inch by 28-inch rectangles and range in price from $25 to $179.
Display your photos in multiple ways, either hung directly on your wall or displayed side by side on the wooden Fracture display shelf, called the Storyboard. Storyboards mount to the wall via hidden brackets and house the photos in three grooves so you can stack and layer your prints to create dimension. To display multiple mounted photos, use the Photo Wall tool to choose from one of eight preset layouts, then upload your photos accordingly to create a stunning collage.

I ordered a few Fracture prints for myself this fall to dress my bedroom walls. Not only was the process to upload and edit my photos simple and intuitive – and I was able to adjust the contrast, brightness and levels of my art through the website – the system even warned me that one of my photos didn’t have a high enough resolution to print at the larger size I had in mind.
How it works
At Fracture’s manufacturing facility, based in Gainesville, Florida, the process begins with large sheets of durable glass that’s scored and snapped by hand to the size you ordered. It’s then softened with a grinder to make it safe to handle and which results in soft, round edges.
From there, photos are printed directly onto the glass using every color except white, and UV lights instantly cure the ink. A thick layer of white ink is then added to the back to help with color vibrancy and a final inspection is done by Fracture team members to ensure your print is top-notch.
Foam backing is added to protect the glass and give you an easy way to hang your prints. Finally, Fracture team members pack each order by hand using sustainable materials that reduce waste while keeping prints safe in the shipping process.
