Hoping to bring a little happiness into the lives of older adults, their families and caregivers, Elderwerks Educational Services is hosting the “Benefits of Laughter,” a free live virtual presentation on Thursday, Sept. 15, from 10 to 11 a.m. CDT. Elderwerks is a nonprofit organization that provides senior living coordination, advocacy, education and guidance counseling to older adults regardless of income.
During the interactive virtual event, Elderwerks’s director of education, Chris Petrik, RN, BS, will explain the difference between laughter and humor, share the psychological and physical benefits of laughter, and give examples of laughter exercise and therapy.
“You practice laughing together,” said Emily Groezinger, office manager at Elderwerks. “Even if it’s forced, laughter makes you feel better and healthier.”
At one point in her presentation, Petrik shows videos of babies laughing that brighten everyone’s day and make them smile.
