Today is the 51st anniversary of Earth Day, which is a great reason to focus on improving our climate. Since getting outdoors is a fantastic mood booster for seniors, we’d like to share some activities you can do together to better our planet.

Plant A Wildflower Garden
It doesn’t take a large plot of land to grow beautiful flowers. Take some packets of wildflower seeds to your loved one and help plant them in a patio, pot, or in the backyard. Wildflowers attract butterflies and bees— which in turn pollinate vegetable gardens! And who doesn’t love fresh produce?
Start A Compost Bin
Teach your loved one that composting vegetable trimmings and fruit peels is a great way to limit trash, and it can even help their gardens grow if they bury it in the soil.

Shop At A Local Market
Head to the local farmer’s market and talk about the importance of supporting small businesses. Shopping local eliminates the amount of bulk shipping packaging used at chain stores while also providing us with delicious fresh meat and produce.
Take A Walk and Pick Up Litter Along the Way
Grab an Earth-friendly bag and stroll around the block or head to the park to pick up trash. If your loved one has trouble bending over, take a grabber with you.

Hang A Bird Feeder
Buy a birdhouse and fill it with seed, and hang it somewhere that’s easy for your loved one to see while sitting on a porch or through a window. Consider one that they can paint for some creative fun!
